Waggum - Brunswick, Germany

Target Category: Airfield -
Construction began in early 1935 on the new airport Brunswick-Waggum. The ramps were concrete but the runways were grass. The Luther aircraft factory, MIAG and the Aircraft Repair Plant Brunswick Ltd. (Grotrian) set up facilities. In 1939, it became a military facility. To deceive bombing, a mock airfield was created near the town of Grassel. In 1940 a flying school was established. On 12 April 1945 units of the U.S. Army occupied the city and the airport. In June 1945 the US gave the airfield to the British, who demolished it. In 1950 gliding began again and in 1955 powered flight.
