Zweigwerk Halberstadt - Halberstadt, Germany |
Target Category: Industry - Aviation |
The Zweigwerk Halberstadt, established in 1934 by Junkers Flugzeugwerke, produced wings for the Ju88 aircraft. With a workforce of 8100 people it was the second largest Junkers facility after Dessau. In late 1944, production was moved into caves south of Halberstadt due to bombing. A larger facility had been planned at Langenstein-Zwieberge. 5000 Buchenwald prisoners built a 17km long cave system for the production of jet engines. Construction ended with the end of the war. After the war, Maschinenbau Halberstadt GmbH used the former Junkers Flugzeugwerke facilities. http://hugojunkers.pytalhost.com/ju_home.htm |
