Target: MERZHAUSEN GERMANY Airfield (198 aircraft) - (50.3178, 8.4721)

The airfield Merzhausen (Taunus) was created in 1937. It was built as a port using the First Class and was an integral part of Hitler's headquarters "Eagle's Nest" site. The airfield was disguised as a sheep farm. Sheep were used to keep the grass of the runway short. Hangars were not built. The aircraft were later parked at the edge of the forest under camouflage netting. It was primarily used by transport and courier aircraft. During 1941-1944 it was used as a Hitler Youth training camp. In 1944, it was heavily damaged by bombing raids. After the war, as late as 1950, the area was still pockmarked with bomb craters.
