Target: GIEBELSTADT GERMANY Airfield (49 aircraft) - (49.6497, 9.96928)

Construction began in late 1934 and was finished in 1935. The buildings were designed along the lines of National Socialism with extensive use of natural stone and wood. In 1944 the runway was extended and the parking areas for aircraft were dispersed. The airfield was captured by US forces 1 April 1945. Despite considerable damage and destruction, the US immediately used the airfield, basing fighters and bombers there. After the war, the Strategic Air Command Europe based B-29 bombers here.
